Nic was inspired to write about the Gorta Mor (Great Hunger) when she learned of her Third Great-Grandmother's escape from Ireland's Potato Famine -- while pregnant -- as a stow-away in the hull of a coal ship. Nic holds a doctorate in Communication from Florida State University and lays claim to a decades long career of award-winning writing and teaching. She hails from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she lives with her partner Paul and their two rescue Pomeranians, Gryphon and Ella.
